The Bridge is a non-denominational church that grew out of the roots of the Calvary Chapel movement. Calvary Chapel began in the 60's with an explosion that has continued for the last 40 years. Pastor David McGee, after many years of ministry in the Calvary Chapel stream, longed to see an expository Bible-teaching church planted where he was born and raised. His family has lived in the Triad area of NC for over 285 years. With a simple faith in God and in response to His clear call, the McGee's started a Bible study in their home in the fall of 2001. The very first night of the study two neighborhood kids received the Lord as their Savior! For the next year, Pastor David also worked for Pastor Greg Laurie and the Harvest Crusades. It was during this time God blessed and knitted a core group of believers together. In October of 2002, this small group of 15-20 believers rented a facility in Kernersville with an expectation that God would continue to bless them.
What has happened since then is a story that shows both the blessing and validation of what God will do with those that trust Him and not growth programs. Since October of 2002, the church has grown from 15 people to a weekly attendance of over 2,000. Although some of this has been 'transfer growth' (folks coming over from different churches) a significant amount has been the 'unchurched' and the backslidden. We have seen countless decisions for Christ.
We moved into our previous facility in November 2003. In March 2004, we needed to add a second service to accommodate the growth. The Lord continued to bring people in such numbers that we realized we needed more space. So when God provided the opportunity for us to occupy the entire 37,000 sq. ft. facility, we signed a five year lease and began converting the rest of the building into much needed rooms and a new, larger sanctuary. The conversion of the building from a manufacturing plant into a church was an ongoing process as we continued to grow.
We opened a satellite church in Greensboro, NC that began to grow and flourish. We established Cross the Bridge Ministries to reach our own community and around the world with the good news of Jesus Christ. Pastor David's radio program, Cross the Bridge, is heard around the world on over 400 radio stations, and his television program, Cross the Bridge with David McGee is on local and internet stations. Pastor David has shared his testimony, shared the Gospel and taught God's Word on local, national and international television broadcasts. Pastor David's first book, Cross the Bridge to Life, enjoyed a nationwide release and strong sales.
As God continued to bless The Bridge and we needed more parking, more bathrooms, more classrooms... in short, we needed a bigger building! God, in His timing, provided for us to purchase a wonderful 14 acre property located at 1080 Old Greensboro Rd. in Kernersville, NC. In October of 2010, we moved into our amazing facility and new home. God led Pastor David McGee and the board of directors to adopt the new name The Bridge in order to establish our identity in our new home more firmly as a non-denominational church that operates under the authority and direction of the Lord Jesus Christ. Cross the Bridge Outreach Ministries is a significant part of our efforts to reach and teach the whole world until He comes. Changing our church name from Calvary Chapel of the Triad to The Bridge more closely associated our home church with our outreach efforts for the Kingdom.
We praise God that He is doing such a mighty work here. People are being saved. People are having their faith renewed, marriages healed and their walk with the Lord restored. Today, the growth and excitement of what the Lord is doing continues as we serve Him and stay true to His Word. Our goal still remains simple and true. We will reach people and teach them the Bible, until the whole world hears.
We invite you to take part in this exciting time and see what God can do in your life, family and community. God's Word with God's Spirit changing God's people-it's just that simple.
