David McGee's Daily Devotional

1 Corinthians 7:32,35
32 But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord--how he may please the Lord. But he who is married cares about the things of the world--how he may please his wife.35 And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction."
NKJV

In the verse above, Paul is saying that whether you are married or unmarried you need to place God first in your life. If you make Him first, you will find life a joy and a blessing. If not, you are headed for trouble. What are your eyes on today? The answer tells a lot about what your priorities are. Often, we look around us and grow anxious about all our responsibilities. When we are anxious about the priorities of life, it should drive us to pray--drive us to Him! Sometimes, priorities take on different levels of importance at different times in life, but nothing should ever come before God in our lives.

What is first in your life right now? Is it your family, finances, spouse, or career? Friend, if it is anything other than God, your priorities need to be reorganized. You have the power over your own will to choose. Choose God or don't choose God, but you are the only one that makes this decision. God has to be first today. It's a daily decision, and the reality is that if He is not first in your life, the rest of your life will lack peace and be chaotic. Is that what you want?

God has placed the desire in you to follow Him. So ask yourself some hard questions. Are you distracted? Do you want to be filled with regret or will you make a decision to reap the peace, joy, and blessing only He can give? Make Him number one and watch God pour himself out on you. He is waiting. Will you move?

Life Lesson: Married or unmarried, the important thing is to put God first in your life.

Dear Father,
Thank You for loving me so much that You give me chances to realign my heart and priorities. Thank You for telling me how life works and allowing me the opportunity to choose You. Please help me to get my priorities in order. I have been distracted and put other things before You. Remind me gently each day to make You first in my life today and always. I choose to serve You first--to be a kingdom-builder and world-changer.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
